There were 3150 of these wagons, which had a wooden or steel body on a vacuum brake frame. They were used for carrying various goods, such as pipes, timber, machinery and scrap metal. Some of them were paired with another lowfit wagon and fitted with bolsters to carry long loads. The lowfit wagons had different styles of brake riggings, such as LNER, RCH or BR clasp brakes.
